1.8 Tozan ji-ari shakuhachi signed “SHUGETSU”- Restored by Chikudo

Tozan ji-ari shakuhachi made by “SHUGETSU”, a well known Tozan maker from Kansai area in the beginning of 20th century (thus a 100 years old shakuhachi…)
The bore is wider than the modern Tozan flutes giving a more warm and sweet tone.
The Japanese madake bamboo is thick and dense, very comfortable in hands and mouth.
This shakuhachi had several cracks bound in the traditional way. I re-glued the rings and filled big cracks in the bore with ‘ji’ before applying a new layer of urushi.
It is a ji-ari shakuhachi of intermediate level.
