Ji-ari shakuhachi 1.8 in D – by Chikudo
Made in one of the Madake offered by Etsuji-san’s wife in Kyushu in 2019, this shakuhachi is the last Ji-ari I built.
I don’t make so many of them within a year because I take a lot of time to design carefully the bore by testing regularly after each adjustment; that takes weeks…!
This Ji-ari is powerful and flexible, with a great response to all of the Honkyoku ornamental techniques, goes easily up to Dai-kan and has a nice warm and velvet tone colour.
It is an advanced level Ji-ari; best suited for a seriously motivated beginner looking for a shakuhachi to grow with or an experienced player looking for a good kinko ji-ari shakuhachi made with respect to the tradition.
