ji-ari Shakuhachi 1.8 in D – U.S madake
Here is the first ji-ari shakuhachi that I made. I built it last year from a piece of American madake (from Keiji Oshima) but I wasn’t satisfied with the Ro which was weak compared to the other notes. I recently worked again on it and thanks to the studies I could make on all the flutes I repaired for the last year, I could improve this Ji-ari.
This shakuhachi is in tune with a nice tone colour; with its pretty big bore, it has a ’rounder’ sound than the very bright typical modern ji-ari one.
Made in two pieces (nakatsugi-kan) – kinko inlay – several layers of black roiro urushi coating.
