Vintage Ji-nashi shakuhachi 1.6 in E “mumei” – restored by Chikudo
This is an excellent old ji-nashi (pre-war) unsigned (mumei). The bamboo has ideal proportions (both in terms of nodes number and placement and natural bore design). This shakuhachi is both powerfull and stable in volume, with a clear and bright tone, well balanced and tuned (up to re dai-kan). It is quite rare to find such a good ji-nashi. The utaguchi, although I opened it, is quite thin so is the playing of this flute.
The Tozan insert was damaged and I also worked on some bore and ton-eholes adjustments for a better tuning. I finally relacquered the bore with dark red urushi. A new start for this flute of probably 60/80 years old.
