Kinko Ji-ari 1.8 Shakuhachi in D restored
This good quality flute, not so old (20 to 30 years I would say), is a modern Ji-ari signed by the maker “Ryuho” (but not the famous Miura Ryuho !)
I got it with a bad crack on all the upper part and part of the lower. Utaguchi inlay was also cracked and urushi lacquer in the bore was splinted and needed some Ji…
That was a interesting complete repairing work for me !
With everything fixed and its voice back, here is a very good Ji-ari; powerful in volume and bright in timbre with a great and easy response up to Dai-kan.
This Shakuhachi requires a good embouchure control to catch all its potential thus it is rather for an intermediate to advanced player than a beginner.
I could have this Shakuhachi evaluated by Gunnar Jinmei Linder during his stay in Figeac;
According to him, it is a very good advanced player flute but not yet ‘professional’ (in the way it cannot be pushed until the maximum blowing)
