Vintage Myoan Shakuhachi 1.9 in C#- Restored by Chikudo

This ji-nashi/ji-mori shakuhachi (I think that there is ji at some points) is a flute probably made by an amateur during Meiji period (100 years ago). It has typical characteristics of the construction of flutes from Kyoto Myoan school at that time (angle of utaguchi, inlay’s shape, bore design…). Its bore, quite wide is almost cylindrical giving quite a round tone not bright and sharp because of lack of air compression. The holes, placed equidistantly according to old towari method give a slght different tuning with the typical higher chi. The overall tonality is C# (even if the length is 1.8 shaku) globally higher of about 20 cent. (I harmonized the tuning keeping the ancient character of the pitch).
The bamboo has a nice dark patina due to the age. I have replaced the missing inlay with deer antler shaped in the Meian style and re-lacquered with dark red urushi; keeping the general vintage aspect of that type of shakuhachi.

This flute is suitable for beginners and meditative solo playing.
